Anjali Bhagwat is a well-known Indian Sports Shooter. She was born on 5 December 1969 in Mumbai. Her mother works for All India Radio, and her sister is a singer. Her husband is Mandar Bhagwat, a Mumbai-based businessman. Anjali was inspired in sports by American athlete Carl Lewis. She joined the National Cadet Corps during her school days. She remained connected with the NCC when she joined Kirti College, Mumbai. In her college curriculum, she got into the Maharashtra Rifle Association.
Anjali began shooting at the age of 21. In 1988, she participated in the National Championship and won a silver medal for Maharashtra. Sanjay Chakravarthy was his coach. She won 55 Gold, 35 Silver, and 16 Bronze medals in the domestic competitions. The SAF Games 1995 was her first international event . Adding to her international achievements, she won gold in the Commonwealth Championship Auckland (1999), three gold in Air Rifle, 3 P as an individual and team, 12 gold, and four silver in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Shooting Championship. Under the training of Laszlo Szucsak, she reached the finals of the Sydney Olympics in 2000. She became the World's Number One Shooter in 2002. In 2003, she won the World Cup Final in Milan with a score of 399/400.
In the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, she won gold and silver medals in 3P and Air Rifle. She is the only woman to win the ISSF Champions Trophy in Munich in 2002. Anjali uses different rifles for different events. She uses a German-made rifle, Feinwerkbau in Air Rifle and 10m. For 50m, she uses a Walther Rifle. She received various awards for her contribution to sports, such as the Arjuna Award (2000) and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award(2003). In addition to this, she also received Shree Shiv Chattrapati Award(1992), Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar(1993), Vasantrav Naik Pratishthan Puraskar(1993), Indo-American Society Young Achiever Award(2002)HISA Sports Woman of the year(2003), HISA Shooter of the year(2003,2004), GR8 Women Achievers Award(2005) and F I E Foundation National Award.
In addition to sports, she hosted Commonwealth Games 2010, which prompted sports with Sahara and Reliance. She was also an expert panel on CNN-IBN for the Commonwealth Games 2006 and 2010. She was also part of the selection panel of the awardees of the Shiv Chatrapati Award, Dronacharaya Award, and Arjuna Award. She also appeared as a guest in the Marathi movie Bokya Satbande. She also teaches blind students and writes for newspapers and magazines.
