Rajendra Mehta

Rajendra Mehta is a well-known Indian singer who has given several Ghazal masterpieces to the Bollywood music industry. He was born in 1934 in Lahore and moved to Lucknow with his family after the partition. Mehta started learning music at the age of 14-15 in Lucknow. Later, he shifted to Mumbai, where he met his wife Nina Mehta at the All India Radio studio in 1963. They sang a Ghazal together and matched each other so well that they married in 1967. They had two children, a son Neeraj Mehta and a daughter Neera Mehta. Rajendra Mehta loved the Urdu language and was an exceptionally gifted vocalist. Earlier, he worked with the Life Insurance Corporation of India and participated in Murphy Metro Music Contest in 1956.

A most remembered ghazal track by Rajendra and Nina Mehta is Tajmahal Mein Aa Jana, later featured in the movie Yaha Waha in 1984, written by Prem Warbatoni and composed by Govind Prasad Jaipurwale. They together have sung in many concerts and are popularly known as Musical Mehtas. As a couple, they were well-known for their coordination and stage chemistry and are endure in memories. One of their romantic hit tracks by him was Suna Hai Mene Ye ki Jabse Tum Gulshan Mein Aaogi became a hit among the audience. They lost their daughter in 2008 and were living with their son. Rajendra Mehta died on 13 November 2019, post the death of her wife in 2014.
