Narendra Singh Negi is a renowned Indian folk singer and music composer. He was born on August 12, 1949, in Pauri, Uttarakhand. He completed his schooling at Pauri Garhwal. He attained a bachelor's degree from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. Negi's inclination towards folk singing began during childhood, and he performed at various cultural events. His mother's and town's women’s hard work inspired him to write a song in 1974. In 1976, Negi released his first full-fledged music album, Garhwali Geetmala. He has sung different genres of Uttrakhani songs, such as Jagar, Mangal, Basanti, Khuder, Chhopati, Chounphula, and Jhumeila.
In 1993, he released a music album titled Chibdaat. His other notable albums include Khud (1995), Kargile Ladaima (1999), Samdola ka dwi din (2000), Basant Aege (2010), and Uttarakhand Devbhoomi (2023). He has lent his voice to various movies, such as Chakrachal (1996), Gharjawai (1986), Meri Ganga Holi Ta Maima Aali (2004), and Subero Ghaam (2014). On April 9, 2022, Negi was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in New Delhi. Negi received the Awaaz Ratna Award on September 15, 2021. His celebrated work has earned him the popular titles of Garh Ratan, and Bob Dylan of the Hills. He has been married to Usha Negi and has two children.
