Madhuri Barthwal Nee Uniyal is a folk singer from Uttrakhand, India. Madhuri’s father was a singer and sitarist. After her graduation, she spent several years in the college as a music teacher. She composed for All India Radio in Nazibabad in her spare time. She started supporting Folk music or Uttrakhand. Madhuri created ‘Dharohar’ which was a radio programme dedicated to Uttrakhand’s heritage and folk music. She mastered every musical instrument and also helped other musicians during their recordings. She has sung alongside Narendra Singh Negi.
Madhuri has worked towards the propagation and conservation of Uttrakhand’s folk music (Garhwali, Kumaoni, Jaunsari) for the last 45 years. She was the first woman music composer for All India Radio. She was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar on International womens day in 2019 by Ram Nath Kovind In the year 2017, Ram Nath Kovind was elected as 1 >> Read More... . She also won the Padma Shri in the field of art in 2022. Madhuri is devoted to the NGO ‘Manu Iok Sanskritik Dharohar Samvardhan Sansthan’. She is the adyaksh of the NGO.
