Shyam Bhatia

Shyam Bhatia is a well-known name in the field of Architecture and Set Designing. He was born on 13 October 1978. He was deeply interested in architecture ever since his childhood. After his graduation in Architecture, at the age of 24, Shyam started working as an Assistant Art Director under the leadership and guidance of very popular national award winner Production Designer Mr.Samir Chanda(late). While working with him, Shyam closely understood the insight into the creative and exciting world of Production Design. This passion for designing gave Shyam his very first project in set designing. He has been associated with movie sets, television, architectural projects, interior designing for more than a decade.

After working in Mumbai, Shyam thought of moving to the South for more career opportunities, and he instantly fell in love with Kerala and the greenery and nature which is surrounding it. He made Kerala his second home and started taking up more projects there. Shyam revealed in an interview how much he admires the beauty & architecture of this state, whereas Mumbai, in comparison to it, is like a concrete jungle. Shyam started working as a production designer/set director in Indian cinema in Oct 2007. In his ongoing career,Shyam has designed more than 200 sets to date. He started his own company, Leesha Designs, which deals with designing customized sets, interiors, etc. While doing all these projects and designing sets,Shyam realized that one thing that remains constant throughout is that the audience wants a fresh canvas in every show. They don’t like looking at any similar set in any season. They are much more fascinated by the different looks that are made in every possible season. Also, the set design allows you to display your work to a larger audience on a bigger platform. There is also the opportunity to test limits in set design. Set design, by its sheer nature, is open to more vivid and experimental concepts. Shyam’s dream project is to design a set for a period drama movie.
