Nayanika Mahtani

Nayanika Mahtani is an Indian scriptwriter and author. She was born and brought up in Kolkata, West Bengal and, spent most of her childhood there. She attended La Martiniere got girls School in Kolkata. Shri Ram College of Commerce and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, are her alma maters. Before becoming an author, she worked as a banker.

Nayanika started her career as an investment banker and had worked in ANZ Grindlays Bank from June 1992 to January 1997. After that, she joined JP Morgan Chase & Co. in 1997 and worked there till December 2000 as the Vice President. Even though she had a job, deep down she always wanted to become a writer. Therefore, she started to write blogs and had been working as a creative writer for many years. In January 2005, she joined Fisheye Design as a Creative Writer and Strategist.

Gradually her interests arose to author novels and plays. She published her first-ever book in 2015 and named it “Ambushed”. The novel received much appreciation from critics as well as the audience. Then she moved on to work for another thriller book “The Gory Story of GENGHIS Khan: Aka Don’t Mess with the Mongols”, which was published in 2017. The story was about a Mongol gory ruler, Genghis Khan, who can conquer every land. This novel has also been well received by the audience. After that, she published her latest book, “Across the Line”, on 22 November 2019.

Other than being an author, Nayanika also works as a scriptwriter for the film industry. She recently co-wrote the screenplay for a Hindi film, “Shakuntala Devi” (2020), which is based on the life of a mathematical genius woman Shakuntala Devi.
