Ashok Sawhney is a Poet, businessman and film producer by occupation, who was born in Lahore before independence and partition. Lahore is currently in the neighboring country Pakistan. He was born on 27th July 1937 (Star sign- Cancer), and married to Uma Sawhney, who gave birth to four beautiful daughters named; Geeta, Jyoti, Meera, Radha.
Mr. Sawhney pursued his education from Modern School, New Delhi, and St. Stephen's College, Delhi. In early days, Sawhney did not live a lavishing life with all the luxuries. He faced bad times with just 25 paise in his pocket, and taking care of a large family. It was a difficult journey of success for him. Mr. Sawhney achieved great fame after his poem 'Last words of a dying tree.
He was fond of Ghazals. People entitled him as "A poet by choice." Before jotting down 13 poems, he was a businessman indulged in international trading activities with offices in various countries. In 1978, he started his company 'Monarch International.' When asked about entering the Poetic world, Sawhney states that, "Every human is a born artist. Art is a form of expressing yourself. Writing is one of the art forms, in which I was always interested, I just needed a start, and that came in, due to a sentimental phase in life." , etc. Mr. Sawhney has read both English and Urdu through school and college, he was always fascinated by poetry and, literature.
He started writing, rather late, in December 2006." "The Sands of Time" and "As Time Goes By" have been published in London and, three launch of three books was held in 2009. In 2010, two books in Urdu Sada-e-dil and Lamhon ka Safar were also released. Sawhney's other books are The Tyranny of Truth, Misadventures of a Flying Horse, To Have Loved, The Mango Grove at Kashipur, Chequerboard, a Pigeon and I, and The Rabbit's Tale. Mr. Sawhney is a stubborn man who believes in hard work and its' fruitfulness.
He motivated people to have faith in their work and do not have expectations. A reward is a bonus which will be showered on you if you are destined to it. This man with the kindest personality and bunch of talent has always chosen to be down to earth, and his earnest desire is to pose love against hatred. His poem reflects qualitative approach and gives hope to people. His contribution to the Literature and business world is immensely great.
