Anant Singh is a film producer by profession. He is mainly a South African film producer and has produced several Hindi films too. He also has the membership of the International Olympic Committee and is an activist of anti-apartheid too. He was born on 29 May in 1956 in Durban, South Africa. He is married to Vanashree Singh. He completed his education from the University of Durban-Westville. He has produced more than 80 films since the start of his career in the year 1984. When he reached the age of 18, he left his studies to venture a business of selling movies. He started to distribute films and became the founder of the rental company called “Videovision Entertainment” where he is the CEO and the chairman too. He has produced many feature films and several documentaries too. He worked in many anti-apartheid movies too. His first anti-apartheid film that released all over South Africa was “Africa – Land of Hope (Place of Weeping).” His other outstanding anti-apartheid films were “Sarfarina!” In 1992, “Cry, the Beloved Country” in 1995, and “a woman named Yesterday” for which he got the first nomination for Oscar Award in the South African film. Its shooting occurred in the isiZulu language in 2004 and got nominated in the category of the “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Academy Awards 2005. Apart from South African films, he also took part in many international projects and produced films in countries like US, UK, and South Korea. His documentary films include “Countdown to Freedom” in 1994 which was based on the first free elections that occurred when the apartheid system ended. Anant Singh was also given the membership of the IOC for his remarkable contribution in the promotion of South African Sports. He is the chairman at “EastCoast Radio.” It is a commercial radio station which is situated in KwaZulu-Natal. He also works as the director of OFM which is a radio station situated in Bloemfontein plus he is at the post of chairman at the “Cape Town Film Studios.” He won many awards and nominations during his lifetime. He received the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum and Peabody Award. He got many nominations such as BAFTA Award for Best British Film and the Black Reel Award for the film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” Emmy Award in the category of the TV movie, Film of the year award at the American Black Film Festival.
