Nida Fazli is counted in a list of reputable personalities. He was a poet, novelist, and a lyricist of Hindi and Urdu languages. His full name was Muqtada Hasan Nida Fazli. He was inborn on 12 October 1938 in Delhi, in a Kashmiri family. His parents raised him in Gwalior, India. He completed his schooling and honed his skills in English Literature. His father was also an Urdu poet. In the year 1965, his family migrated to Pakistan, and Nida decided to stay in India. Nida received the Padma Shri for his contribution to literature in 2013 by the Indian Government.
Nida was inspired by a singer, who was reciting Dohas of Surdas at a temple. When he was passing by, he appreciated the poetic beauty of the ‘Paddaas’ of Krishna and Surdas. He started writing poems. Soon after, he felt limitations in Urdu poems and began reading the workings of Mir and Ghalib. He was amazed by the poetic devices of Meera and Kabir. In 1964, he moved to Mumbai to find a job. His poetic style attracted the attention of directors and writers. He started to receive offers to attend the Mushairas. He established to gain notice among prominent writers and readers of Ghazals. His writings always displayed a very different view to see the world; he used to bring Nostalgia feels in his publishings. His famous lyrics were used in Aap To Aise Na The, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin in 1996 and Gudiya. He wrote the title songs of many TV serials. He teamed up with Jagjit Singh in 1994. Before his death, he wrote few columns for BBC Hindi’s website on literature. He published his first collection of Urdu poetry in the year 1969. He received the National Harmony Award for writing on communal harmony. He wrote 24 books in languages like Urdu, Hindi, and Gujarati. He received the title of Mir Taqi Mir from the Government of Madhya Pradesh for his autobiographical novel Deewaron Ke Bich. He took his last breath on 8 February 2016.
