Niranjan Pal was an Indian playwright, screenwriter, and director in the Indian Film Industry. He was born on 17 August 1889 in Calcutta, West Bengal, in a Sylheti Family. In London, during his teenage days, he was involved in the Indian Freedom Struggle during an association with Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Madanlal Dhingra. He started writing in the late 1910s, and wrote The Light of Asia and Shiraz, which were performed on stage in London. Both of these plays were commercially successful. He has also directed certain films like Needle’s Eye (1931), Pardesia (1932), and Chitthi (1941). As a screenwriter, he has written some of India’s blockbusters of that time, namely Achhut Kanya (1936), Janmabhoomi (1936), Jeevan Naiya (1936), and Jawani Ki Hawa (1935).
