In 1975, he got his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Craft, Kolkata, and completed his higher studies in Germany. He started working as a cartoonist for the famous magazine Illustrated Weekly of India. There, he created cartoons related to political satire. He became famous for his two watercolor paintings featured in the Taare Zameen par, starring legendary actors Aamir Khan Aamir Khan or Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan is Bolly >> Read More... and Darsheel Safary.Â
Samir Mondal has also hosted solo and group exhibitions in India and foreign countries. Some of his famous exhibitions and paintings are-Freedom of Expression, Tribute to Mother Teresa, 100 Years of Indian Cinema, People for Animals, Art with a Heart, Confluence, and many more. His paintings are displayed in the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi, Karnataka Museums, RPG Enterprises, Tata Steel, Morarji Mills, Standard Chartered, Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Brooke Bond, Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Star Plus Office, Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan and many more.Â
Over the years, he has won multiple awards for his painting talent, like the Best Painting Award ‘All India’ by Kolkata Academy of Fine Arts, the 1986 award issued by AIFACS All India Exhibition, New Delhi, 1995 A.P.Council of Artists, Hyderabad and many more. On the personal front, he married Madhumita in 1980 and has two children, Somak and Sohini.Â
