Neelum Sharma was an Indian News Anchor and Journalist. She was prominently known for being the Doordarshan News Prime Time Anchor. She was born in 1969 in New Delhi, India. Her nationality is Indian, and she belonged to the Hinduism religion. Further, she belongs to the Brahmin caste. Neelum Sharma completed her graduation at Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi. She took her Diploma in Journalism at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. Further, she completed her Master’s degree in Journalism at Mass Communication Research Centre- Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi. Neelum Sharma’s hobbies are Reading books & novels and listening to music.
Neelum Sharma started working as a news anchor in 1995 with the Doordarshan channel, and then on, she became a household name with the DD National’s prime-time news show. She stayed associated with the channel for over 25 years, making her the face brand of Doordarshan. Apart from her anchoring skills, she was also appreciated for her traditional attire look such as a silk saree, open hair and a bindi. Meanwhile, she has been linked with two different other channels. Neelum Sharma directed, hosted, and wrote for some of the DD News channel’s shows. Her most famous shows on the channel includes ‘Charcha Mein,’ Tejaswini,’ and ‘ Ehsaas Ehsaas was launched in the year 2003 by DD Nationa >> Read More... .’ In her show Tejaswini, she focussed on women achievers of India. Also, she hosted the annual event ‘Bhartiya Chhatra Sansad’ (Indian Student Parliament) run by MIT-SOG in Pune from 2012 to 2018.
Neelum Sharma was also a documentary filmmaker. She owns over 60 films to her name. Neelum Sharma has been awarded many prestigious honors in her lifetime. She was rewarded with Adhi Abadi Women Achievers Awards in 2010, the Media Maharathi in 2013, KPS Gill ‘Fearless Indian’ award for excellence in journalism in 2017, and “Nari Shakti Puraskar,” the highest civilian award in India, in 2019. She died on August 17, 2019, in a private hospital in Noida. Her sudden demise came from lung disease- Bronchopneumonia.
