Gourab Das, better known as Harmonica Gourab, is an Indian harmonica player, singer, composer, musician, teacher, and philanthropist. Gourab's work is known for its fusion of Indian classical music, the songs of Tagore, Bengali folk music, and classic American jazz, blues, electronic music, world music, and traditional orchestral arrangements. Gourab was born in Chinsura, West Bengal, India. Initially trained in singing under the tutelage of his mother, he later learned Hindustani classical and other forms of traditional music from Shri Radhakanta Mallik. Gourab started playing the harmonica in 2004. In the early years, he learned to play the instruments by himself. In 2010, he contacted Dr. Babita Basu, a famous harmonica player, and inspired by him, Gourab began playing the harmonica more diligently and began formal training under his guidance. Gourab's first public appearance was in 2012 at an annual cultural event organized by the Ministry of Health, Government of West Bengal.
Gourab graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from MCKV College, West Bengal University of Technology in 2010. He worked for Godrej Security Solutions in 2010, when he was a temporary resident in Mumbai. He decided to return to Kolkata and then joined Cognizant Kolkata. Shabda Kalpa drum was his first musical project as a band. He later created his own YouTube channel and Facebook page. In addition to performing at events, he began composing more music. Gourab's scores won him many prestigious awards ranging from second prize in the Rabindrasangeet category in the All India Harmonica Competition organized by the All India Music Institute to third prize in the classical category in the All India Harmonica Competition organized by the All India Music Institute in 2014.
