He was one of the popular sitar players. In 1986, he moved from India to Pakistan, where he accepted Pakistani citizenship, but he grew up in Mumbai. Rais Khan was born to an Urdu-speaking Pashtun family. At a young age, his training started on a small coconut shell sitar.
