Since then, he and his wife have started their music school in Torrance and have performed with the Rolling Stones and the LA Philharmonic. In the North Indian classical tradition, Aloke is one of the most exceptional and creative sitar musicians. He evokes nostalgia sitar masters with his mature approach and original compositions while also demonstrating an awareness of modern, global movements like jazz, new age, and world music. Aloke has quickly assimilated phrasing and intonation from different gharanas while having a Maihar Gharana foundation from Allauddin Khan Saheb, which has dramatically enhanced his original playing style.
Aloke made his stage debut in 1981 at the New York Folk Festival, and the rest, as they say, is history. The Dasgupta enjoys living in Torrance because it welcomes individuals from various cultures. When they leave the house wearing traditional attire, no one even gives them a second look. Additionally, they recognize the superiority of our educational system. Their North High School graduate Riju earned a degree in mathematics and physics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is enrolled in a Ph.D. program at UCLA and will start his studies at CERN, the world's top physics research institute, in Switzerland soon. As a musician who plays the violin, flute, and voice, Riju continues the family tradition. He began playing the violin because his idol Albert Einstein did and because Einstein was such a talented violinist that he gave concerts that were warmly praised by music critics who were unaware of his other endeavors.
