In 1992, he won the honor for the movie Sunday, directed by Pankaj Adwani. He began his career as a music producer for Gujarati and Hindi films. So far, he has performed music in roughly 300 plays. He has worked on sound design and music for over 8000 commercial and public service films in the United States and many other countries

He is now working on western classical and fusion symphonies. Shri Dileep Dholakia, his father, taught him the fundamentals of music when he was a child. He was a noted Composer-Singer from Hindi and Gujarati Films, who mastered Classical music in Bhendibazaar Gharana from his guru Ustad Amaanali Khaan Saaheb. Rajat's primary goal was to pursue a technical career in music and film. Therefore he began studying Western music, staff notation, and music arrangement under the outstanding Western Classical Teacher Pandit Ramprasad Sharma in 1973.
