Aakrosh earned huge fame among the audience and went on to achieve the National award for Best Feature Film for the year. Aakrosh is known for its gripping story, fine performances by the cast and spectacular direction. It was his debut movie as an independent composer in the Indian movie industry. He was one of the most talented music composers of all time. He started learning music at the tender age of 16.

His hidden talent was first recognised by Salil Chawdhury when Varman sang for churches. He was then invited by Sebastian D'Souza, a revered music arranger, upon hearing praises for his talents. He then worked in an orchestra with Shankar Jaikisan. He was impressed by Varman's excellent and unique drumming style. He started working as a musician in Mera Naam Joker in 1970. He played the bongo with his smooth fingers in Mukesh's Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye in Anand in 1971. He also learnt to play the piano and harmonium. He also learnt recording music and conducting music in detail. In 1970, he worked on a Muslim show called Noor-e-Elahi.

He composed under the nickname Babloo Dheeraj. He composed almost 6 songs for the show, including romance and Sufiana qawwalis. Indian old style music and Western harmonies are similarly conspicuous in Varman's music, giving it a remarkable sound. While you love a portion of his melodies in a flash, others are a gain in taste. A sign of Varman's music is its rich and complex surface. His ambient sound well curtains any story; rigid at certain points in the screenplay, and graceful at others. It increases the strain in specific scenes while creating a profound feeling of misfortune or premonition in others.
