Nazima

Nazima was an actress in Hindi cinema depicting the evergreen love between a brother and sister. While top actors like Rajendra Kumar, Manoj Kumar and other actors did justice to their role, Nazma also won audiences heart for her best supporting role as a sister. Nazima could give life to the sister characters that she played on the big screen. Sometimes she played a loving sister to Dharmendra, Vijay Arora or even Biswajeet and her dialogues always depicted the exact emotions of a brother and a sister. Above all, she was never marginalized and even took a lengthy role; Nazima appeared in the silver screen at a time when Bollywood had more or less stereotype the brother and sister bond for the longest time. Actors like Manoj Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dharmendra were seen playing the righteous brother who wanted to get their sister married to an eligible bachelor. And Nazima was the exact choice for many producers who wanted to highlight the brother-daughter relationships in films.

Many Hindi songs that were picturized on her became epic song too. In a film like Arzoo, she played sister to Rajendra Kumar and was even a friend to actress Sadhana. Nazima appeared in many song and dance sequences in the film. In Adhikar, she played heroine to Dev Mukherjee. She was also featured for a ’rakhi’ song with Rajendra Kumar in Anjana that depicted the bond between the younger sister and elder brother. She was a beautiful, fresh and charming actress who acted with almost every top heroine and got a substantial role in every film. This actress paired almost all leading heroes and signed every big banner, and every film became a blockbuster.

Nazima was one of the busiest actresses in 1960’s and 1970's. When Aruna Irani and Farida Jalal got into stereotyped sister roles after her, she quit film industry. Now she resides in Mumbai.
