Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi

National award-winning actress Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi is one of the talented actresses in Indian cinema. Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi, popularly called Tonthoi, was born on 17th October 1986 Leishangthem Lbungomacha Singh and Leishangthem OngbiLeibaklei Devi in a village called Chingkhu in Khundrakpam, Manipur. She loved keeping herself occupied since young. Be it sports or music or dance, Tonthoi gave her hundred percent in every field. Her parents wanted her to make a profession out of her education, but Tonthoi love for art made her take up a diploma course in dance from J N Manipur Dance Academy.

She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from D.M. College of Commerce in Manipur. She has also been a part of her University’s football team. Tonthoi has taken part in the Inter-University Competitions representing her University. Further, she did her Master’s in Social Work from Manipur University. Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi got married to Deepak Thokcham on 16th May 2021. In 2006, while still at college, Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi took part in the Bright Film’s DAWN Actor Actress Competition. She impressed everyone with her acing and emerged as the winner of the show. Post the win, Tonthoi learned to act from Oja Niladhaja Khuman for three months. In 2007, she entered the film industry by playing the supporting role of Thaja in the movie Nangna Thawaini.

Following the debut, she collaborated with director Bishwamittra three times in Shak Henba Bhoot, Paachaa, and Paokhum. In 2011, Tonthoi got roped in to play the supporting role in the movie Phijigee Mani, directed by O.Gautam. She played the character of Yaiphabi in the movie. She also received the Film Academy Manipur’s Best Actress of 6th RJ Film Vision Special Award. Besides playing character roles, Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi has acted in the lead role in films like Loibataare Ta Raju, Leipaklei, Beragee Bomb, Nangna Kappa Pakchade, Pallepfam, VDF Thasana, IcheTampha, and more.

She considers the film Iche Tampha to be one of her career-best roles. Her acting as Tampha blew the audience, and she got highly praised. In recognition of her work, she got awarded the Best Actress Award at the Prag Cine Awards and the Special Jury Award at the 11th Manipuri State Film Awards. Other than acting, Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi also owns a production house along with her brother in the name of Chingkhurakpa Arts. The actress doesn’t believe in quantity but quality.
