Gita Ghatak was an actress and singer; she did mainly Bengali Films. She was born on 23rd January 1931. She was married to Anish Ghatak; he was nephew of
Ritwik Ghatak, a notable filmmaker.
She followed the Rabindra Sangeet, songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore. She learned music under Sailajaran Mujumdar and Indira Debi Choudhurani. She had a long career in Indian classical music of 65 years.
She was also associated with All India Radio, Kolkata. Gita is known for her work in ‘Bari Theke Paliye’ (1958), ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ (1959) and ‘Ekti Nadir Naam’ (2002).
