Gita Ghatak

Gita Ghatak was an actress and singer; she did mainly Bengali Films. She was born on 23rd January 1931. She was married to Anish Ghatak; he was nephew of Ritwik Ghatak Ritwik Ghatak was born in Dhakka, East Bengal now >> Read More... , a notable filmmaker.

She followed the Rabindra Sangeet, songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore. She learned music under Sailajaran Mujumdar and Indira Debi Choudhurani. She had a long career in Indian classical music of 65 years.

She was also associated with All India Radio, Kolkata. Gita is known for her work in ‘Bari Theke Paliye’ (1958), ‘ Meghe Dhaka Tara Meghe Dhaka Tara is a female-centric Bengali drama >> Read More... ’ (1959) and ‘Ekti Nadir Naam’ (2002).

Gita Ghatak has sung many famous songs, some of which are as follows Dujone Dekha Holo (2001), Prabhu, Toma Lagi (2004), Sakhi, Andhare Ekela Ghare (2001), Ki Dhwani Bajey (2001), Chira Sakha, Chhero Na (2001), Aji Je Rajani Jai (2001), Ekhono Gelo Na Andhar (2001), Ki Dhwani Baje (1973), Ami Je Aar Soite Parina (2001), Ki Ragini Bajale, Aamar Rabindranath, Aamar Rabindranath, Majhe Majhe Tabo Dekha Pai (1990), Aaj Sravaner Purnimate (2001), Aikyatan Vol 1, Mandirey Mama Key (2004), Ogo Amar Shrabonmegher (2008), Jete Jete Ekla Pothe (2008), Ke Basiley Aaji (2004), and Shrabaner Dharar Mato (2004). Later, she died on 17 November 2009 at the age of 78 due to prolonged illness.
