Farrukh Jaffer is a Bollywood film and television actress, working in the entertainment industry for over five decades. Her career started in 1963 as the first female announcer of Vividh Bharati station, Lucknow. Born in Jaunpur in a family of feudal lords, she graduated from Lucknow University after marrying Syed Muhammad Jaffer, a freedom fighter & a correspondent for The Washington Post and Chicago Daily News. She bore two daughters–Shahein and MehruJaffer (an author). After 1966, she moved on to AIR Urdu in Delhi and wrote plays and enacted them in a segment called Geeton Bhari Kahani till 1970.

Despite having no formal training, she was an A1 category announcer. While in Delhi, she attended workshops held by NSD’s most eminent directors, Ebrahim Alkazi, and discovered her passion for drama.
