Ranjeev Mulchandani is a popular Indian supermodel-turned photographer-turned producer and now DJ. Mulchandani's introduction to modeling was quite an accident. While coming out of his college, Prasad Bidapa, a fashion stylist and choreographer based in Bangalore, spotted him and chased him down for a few blocks. Modeling came as a breeze for him and helped him make a future out of it. Ranjeev has graced various magazine covers, hosted shows, and has been a part of movies. He was a still photographer in the movies 'Being Cyrus' (2005), 'Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II' (2003), and 'Aim' (2004). Mulchandani has also acted in Mahesh Bhatt's 'A Mouthful of Sky.’ Apart from being a part of magazines and movies, he was a part of several ad campaigns too. He was rumored to have dated some very famous heroines like Aishwarya Rai, Mehr Jessia, and Manisha Koirala.
Ranjeev was on the top of his modeling game till 1995, did photography, and then suddenly disappeared. He stated, “I stopped after I realized there was too much negativity in the news, and that goes against my conscious living philosophy of choosing to go with the positivity energy in life.” For one, a man whose life revolved around commercials, and magazines does not read the papers anymore. He also mentioned that he was bored out of his skull. He had said no to everything, or he would have quoted ridiculous prices. He felt that the ‘supermodel’ tag just happened and that he was doing well, and money was flowing, so he did not quit his modeling career at first. However, it was brave of him to quit his career and move to Goa. After a few years of being in no contact with the outside world, he started a restaurant named 'Axirvaad' in Goa. By then, he was married to Deepti Datt and had a child. He feels that his two kids – daughter Dalai and son Joriki have made him a more spiritual man. Since then, he has worked as a chef, DJ, event manager, and music producer for films. Ranjeev, credited as 'Mula' by his friends, is currently working on a project in Goa that will be a mix of restaurant, performance space, and gallery. Mulchandani has been a person full of life, a person who has seen the ‘highs of highs' and has also uncovered life's tough lessons. He mentions that “Edgy music that will have you dancing in no time,” or travel to unknown places on film photography work, “I'm not going to get old; in fact, I'd like to die with my backpack on.” Ranjeev's story is very inspiring and also motivates everybody to not hold on to negative things in life, and that various opportunities knock on our way, one has to just explore them.
