Priyadarshini Chatterjee is an Indian model who became Femina
World in 2016. Priyadarshini was born on 4th September 1995 in Dhubri, Assam to bengali parents and was brought up in Guwahati. She was born as a premature baby due to which she underwent various medication procedures and surgeries to prevent any kind of side-effects of premature birth. However, a nine-year old Priyadarshini was found to have a tumor in her intestine. Thanks to early detection and diagnosis, life became normal for Priyadarshini who did her schooling in Maria’s Public School, Guwahati. Later, she took admission in Hindu College; a Delhi University affiliated institution where she applied for her bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
In her college days, she used to be active in drama-related activities. In fact, she was a member of Masque, an English language Dramatics club. Priyadarshini believes Masque helped her in dealing with the potential difficulties as she was initially an introvert and had a small group of friends before taking admission in the college. In an interview, Priyadarshini stated that her mother dressed her up as Miss World for a local children fancy dress event, which made her aware of the existence of such competitions. In Delhi, Priyadarshini realized that these beauty pageant contests require exceptional efforts apart from being beautiful and knowledgeable.
Therefore, she worked on various aspects such as personality development, nutrition, etc. to be ready for the pageant. She overcame the fear of rejection and applied for the Femina Miss India 2016 auditions (Delhi Zone). She was adjudged as the winner of Delhi Zone and got an entry into the final round. Apart from winning the zonal round, she also won four subtitles. She won Miss Photogenic, Miss Entertainment, Miss Talented, and Miss Ramp Walk. From then, the beauty from Guwahati marched her way to the crown every Indian girl has always dreamt of winning: the title of Miss India. On April 9th, twenty-one participants competed in the final round of Femina Miss India 2016.
After many rounds, the judging panel which included personalities from all over the world, gave Priyadarshini the title of Miss India World 2016 and
crowned her successor with the title. Thus, Priyadarshini became the first participant from an N-E state to represent India at Miss World. Priyadarshini competed in Miss World 2016 pageant where 117 countries were participating. Eventually, she did not win the crown but she finished as one of the top 20 finalists. Priyadarshini posed for the Femina magazine with the Miss India 2016 winners and Shahrukh Khan on the cover page. Priyadarshini’s zodiac sign is Leo.
Priyadarshini believes her level of confidence increased, thanks to her participation in these beauty pageants. She considers her parents Praveen Kumar Chatterjee and Papiya Chatterjee as her pillars of strength and motivation. After winning the crown, she stated that she would not compromise on education and she would like to pursue the same in the field of travel and tourism. Despite having good looks, Priyadarshini would like to be an Assistant Director as she considers acting as a secondary option. Priyadarshini is quite active in social work too. Her project Shishu Kalyan deals with child labour and she is joining hands with various NGOs to eradicate child labour in slum areas.
