Murtaza Garothwala is a renowned lighting technician who works predominantly in the cinema industry. He is currently a technician at DNEG. He has experience as the lighting lead in commercials and films for more than nine years. He has delivered more than 100 commercials and a couple of TV series and films too. He is proficient with May, Arnoid, Ptgui, Photoshop, Nuke, Gaffer, Vray, etc. His commercials include BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagon, Cadbury, Nissan, LG, Samsung, Lenovo, Etc. He has worked in films like Ron’s Gone Wrong, YYS, The Lost Tomb, Mirzya, Bombay velvet, Postman Pat, etc. He has actively worked in TV shows such as Nickelodeon, The Centstables, Unreleased Netflix, Star Plus, etc.
He pursued his education at St. Xavier's High School. He obtained his degree from Toonskool of Advanced Animation Academy, a three-year degree for learning animation, Multimedia, Visual Effects. Over the course, he learned all the aspects of sketching, from the concept of art to choosing his specialization. He started working in Maya Digital studios as a Lighting artist for two years. He acquired various technical and creative skills while working with multiple different projects, including TV series of Indian and foreign industries like Centsables and Motu Patlu. He worked in Look Development, Troubleshooting issues, Understanding compositing requirements, making passes, optimizing scenes.
Then in 2013, he worked as a VFX Lighting lead at Prana Studio for almost six years. This made him sharpen and embrace his skills and accumulate a lot of creative and technical knowledge. He then went on to pursue his career abroad. He went to Australia and worked as a lighting artist at the Mill Firm for about three months. He came back to India and worked at Tau Films as a “Lighting Td.” He is currently working at DNEG as a Lighting TD expert since September 2020.
He was involved in “Ron’s Gone wrong” as a lighting and compositing artist. He is currently working on a VFX film.
