Kranti Kanade is a filmmaker of Indian origin. He has won a National Award for his work. He completed his studies at both the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). His notable films include Mahek, CRD, Peepal Tree, Gandhi of the Month, and Chaitra. All his films deal with critical social issues. Peepal Tree, which is based on true events, focuses on the issue of illegal tree killings in India. It follows a family that confronts a police academy after they cut down sacred trees. The film explores the challenge of protecting the trees and the community's effort to stand together to safeguard the trees. CRD is set in the world of college theatre, and explores fascism and fierce competition in the arts through an innovative narrative style.
Chaitra, based on a story by the legendary Marathi author G. A. Kulkarni, won five National Film Awards, including Best Short Film, Best Music for Short Film, and a Special Jury Award for Acting. Mahek is a children's film about an 11-year-old girl who dreams of becoming the best at everything but is unsure how to achieve her goals.
