Baradwaj Rangan

One of the sought-after film critics in India, Baradwaj Rangan, is also an author. The National award-winning film critic is popular among the film audience for his upright and detailed film analysis. Baradwaj Rangan was born and brought up in Chennai. He went to St. John’s English School and Junior College. Since young, Baradwaj Rangan had a great attachment to writing and cinema. But he chose to pursue Chemical Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He followed world cinema and read reviews about them to keep his mutual love for movies and writing. His life twisted upside down when he got chosen by the Advertising Agencies Association of India for a workshop.

Later, Baradwaj Rangan moved to the United States to complete his Master’s degree in Advertising and Public relations from Marquette University. Following his graduation, he continued to work in the States as an IT Consultant. Though the job paid him well, Baradwaj Rangan wanted to try his hands at movie reviewing and started writing online reviews. Baradwaj Rangangot noticed for intellectual reviews and got invited to join The New Indian Express as an editor. He returned to India and worked for the Sunday edition of the newspaper, known as The News Sunday Express. He has also worked for few other magazines, like Tehelka, Outlook, The Caravan, Open, and more. Baradwaj Rangan served as the film critic and associate editor of The Hindu from 2003 to 2017 before working with Film Companion.

He performed as the chief consultant at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival for a year and as a jury committee member of the National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... . Baradwaj Rangan, known for his originality when reviewing, is one of the best film critics in India for over a decade. Be it through his writings or in videos, he gives out his opinions unbiasedly. In recognition of his outstanding work, Baradwaj Rangan got the National Award for Best Film Critic in 2006 at the 53rd National Film Award. In 2013, he wrote the dialogues for the movie Kadhal 2 Kalyanam and wrote the 2017 short film Kalki. He appeared in the movie Seethakaathi in a cameo appearance.
