Rahul Bajaj

Rahul Bajaj is a businessman cum politician born on 10th June 1938 to Kamalnayan Bajaj. He has two siblings, SumanJain and Shishir Bajaj. Rahul Bajaj’s Grandfather Jamnalal Bajaj was a freedom fighter and was very close to Mahatma Gandhi. Jamnalal Bajaj founded Bajaj Group in 1926 in Mumbai. Bajaj Group’s subsidiaries are Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Holdings & Investment Ltd., Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Electricals, Bajaj Consumer Care, Mukand Limited, Hercules Hoists Ltd, Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Limited and an accessories brand, Hyperrider. Rahul Bajaj did his schooling at Cathedral, Mumbai. He did his graduation from St Stephen's College in Delhi. Then he went to Government Law College in Mumbai. He did his Management Studies at Harvard University in the US.

In 1965, he entered his family business and managed the Bajaj Group. Rahul Bajaj is the Chairman of Bajaj Auto. From 2006 to 2010, he had been a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. Rahul Bajaj married Rupa Bajaj in 1961. The couple has three children; sons Rajiv Bajaj and Sanjiv Bajaj and a daughter, Sunaina. His daughter Sunaina is the wife of Manish Kejriwal, Temasek India’s former head. Rahul Bajaj was the President of Confederation of Indian Industry for two terms, 1979 to 1980 and 1999 to 2000.

Rahul Bajaj divided Bajaj Auto into three units: Bajaj Auto, a finance company named Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Holdings And Investments Ltd, a holding company. Since 2005, Rajiv Bajaj is the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto and Sanjiv Bajaj is the Chairman and MD of Bajaj Finserv. In 2016, Rahul Bajaj was listed on the World’s Billionaires by Forbes and he was in the 722^nd position. In 2001, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards in India.
