Piyush Thakur, born in 1988, earned his advertising degree from the University of Mumbai and was admitted to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in 2009. His first picture, ‘The Real Millionaire’, as a director-editor, competed at the esteemed 34th Clermont- Ferrand Short Film Festival in France. The film was shown in competitions in the United States, Spain, Germany, Norway, the Czech Republic, France, Malaysia, Nepal, and India. The film also won the Best Student Short Fiction award from the Indian Documentary Producer's Association (IDPA) in 2011.
He was chosen from India for the interaction at 2012 International Student Film Camp in Serbia later in the year. He was chosen from India for Platform Busan in 2017 at the Busan International Film Festival, which was supported by Basil Media Content and BIFF and was held in South Korea.
