Vishesh Makal is an Indian cinematographer who is known for his work in the Hindi film industry. He has been a part of several Bollywood feature films as well as independent shorts. Vishesh comes from New Delhi, where he did his initial schooling. His family then moved to Paris and subsequently to Seoul in South Korea, after which they returned to India. His passion for acting and content creation began at a very young age. He took part in his school’s theatrical events and learned various aspects of technical and editorial work.
While in Seoul, he tutored students and taught them English. Vishesh pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Film and Video at the Asian School of Media Studies during which he directed his first film ‘Suicide (2006).’ He followed his cinematic debut with several other works and eventually joined one of Bollywood’s largest production houses, Yash Raj Films, in 2012. He was part of the editorial department on several popular movies like ‘Ek Tha Tiger (2012),’ ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2013),’ and ‘Dhoom 3 (2014).’ He followed this up with freelancing work as a director and writer.
Some of his critically acclaimed shorts are ‘Peacock (2008),’ ‘The Owner (2012),’ and ‘Rockstar (2018).’ In 2018, he created the short, ‘Harmless,’ which went on to win several awards, and it was screened at many international film festivals. It won the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, ‘Best Thriller Short Film’ at the South Films and Arts Academy Festival, as well as the ‘Gold Award’ at the Virgin Spring Cinefest. It received various honors at the Los Angeles Film Awards and the New Delhi Film Festival. He has also worked on wildlife documentaries involving tigers and numerous advertisement commissions.
