Udayan Prasad is an Indian born director who created some of Britain’s best-loved films, theatricals, and documentaries. He went on to win many distinguished accolades across the period of his career. Prasad was born in Sevagram, Maharashtra, from where his family moved to Britain when he was 9 years old. His fascination with movies was incited at a very young age, and he pursued his interests at the ‘National Film and Television School’ in the UK. Many of his early documentaries like ‘invisible Ink’ and ‘A Corner of a Foreign Field’ reflected the tensions and exchanges between Eastern and Western communities. The early 90s’ featured many of his popular BBC shows, which he created in collaboration with the writer Simon Gray.

His drama ‘Running Late (1992)’ and ‘102 Boulevard Haussman (1991)’ won Golden Gate Award for Best Television Series. ‘102 Boulevard’ and ‘Talking Heads 2: Playing Sandwiches (1998)’ secured BAFTA nominations. He began directing theatrical productions 1995 with ‘Brothers in Trouble’, which went on to win Golden Alexander Award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. In 1997 he was on the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival with his movie, ‘My Son the Fanatic.’ It also received ‘Best Feature Film’ at the Postdam Film Festival.

He also directed the television series ‘Screen two,’ ‘The Musketeers,’ and ‘ Selection Day Selection Day is an Indian Hindi language web seri >> Read More... .’ His feature film, ‘The Yellow Handkerchief (2010)’, received strong critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. As a veteran director, Prasad was often called upon to assist at movie sets, and he also teaches movie making at major film institutes. He acts as visiting lecturer at ‘London Film School,’ ‘The Wajda School, Warsaw,’ and ‘National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź́́, Poland.’ His work in cinematic comedy and satire has carved out its place in the Cinema Hall of Fame.
