S N.S. Sastry is one of the most popular Indian directors. He was born in 1930 in Bombay (Mumbai), India. S. N.S. Sastry joined Films Division India as a newsreel cameraman in the early 1950 and became a director. “I am 20” is a short non-non-fiction documentary produced by the Films Division of India and directed by him in 1967. The filmmaker traveled all over the country and interviewed people born in 1947. He asked them questions about themselves, the country, and what would be done moving forward. The document is filled with thoughtful questions and honest answers, just like independence means human rights, etc.
“I am 20” was awarded the best short film on Social Documentation at the 15th National Film Award, held in November 1968. His archives, the Films Division of India, has over 8000 titles on documentaries, short films, and animation films. In 1968, he directed the hit movie “And I make Short Films” got National Films Award for Best Experimental Film. Sadly, he passed away on 15 November 1978, and he worked very hard to make his dream come true.
