Her parents are credited with being the first exhibitors of Bollywood films in America. Smriti Mundhra has her own production company. Meralta Films. The company is best known for producing documentary and non-fiction films. Her first feature documentary film was called A Suitable Girl.

The documentary was shot in India with her batchmate Sarita Khurana. It won multiple awards at several film festivals across the globe. Her 2019 documentary, St. Louis Superman was one of the important nominations in the category of Best Documentary Short Subject Film for Academy Awards in the year 2006. Her production company produced the drama film “Punching At The Sun” which premiered at Sundance Film Festival. She has also worked as an ad campaign manager for a dating app in India. The Advertise starred Priyanka Chopra Jonas and was called Equal Not Loose. Currently she lives in Los Angeles with her family. Her husband Mr. Christian Magalhaes, is an Emmy-nominated screenwriter. They also have two children together.
