Sisters of the Trees in 2018 is a documentary which was co-produced by Roopa Barua and three Argentine producers Victoria Charles, Directors Camila Menéndez and Lucas Peñafort about the town of Piplantri in Rajasthan, India where people celebrate the artist's birth . The initiative began in 2005 and has already transformed Piplantri into a rest area. Where there was only mining waste, water scarcity and violence against women - today there is vegetation, drinking water, literacy and many job opportunities for local people.

Roopa also won several awards in 2015 for her documentary ‘Riders of the Mist’, about a nearly century-old bareback race in Assam, India for middle-aged horses. Riders of the Mist was first shown in the United States in March 2015 and in Europe in October 2015. The film continues its livelihood and TV broadcasts. Her short film Falkland Road was screened at the Afghan Human Rights Festival 2012. She won Best Documentary Award at the Houston Film Festival, and at the Nashik Film Festival.
