He has been creating documentaries ever since. Plan International started Project Baghiratthi to work for the betterment of the lives of the 300 children who work at the crematorium because of the portrayal in his documentary ‘Children of the Pyre.’
Jala has collaborated with donors to send the seven children featured in this movie to school. He has also made other documentaries like ‘23 Winters,’ which is a short film about refugees in Kashmir, ‘At the Stairs,’ a film about the widows of Varanasi, and many others. He won Best Documentary at the Montreal Film Festival 2008, Best Documentary at the Sao Paola International Film Festival 2008, IFFLA 2009, Asiatica Film Mediale 2009, and several other awards.
