Anand Surapur

Anand Surapur is an Indian Ad filmmaker and movie director who works mainly in the Bollywood industry. Best known for directing the film The Fakir Of Venice (2009), which got screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles 2009, and after ten years had its theatrical release on 1st February 2019.

Anand was born on 3rd June 1972 in Karnataka, India. He did his schooling at Sri Aurobindo Memorial School, Karnataka. At the age of sixteen, Anand moved to the United States to pursue Engineering. After the first semester, he knew he isn’t cut out to be an engineer, so he decided to quit the course midway. Anand saw an advertisement about a lucrative employment opportunity in Alaska, United States. Anand decided to take up the job at a shipping company. After working for four months, he returned to India after two-and-a-half years.

While Anand had no intention to work in the film industry, he thinks his mother played a big part in this career path. During pregnancy, Anand's mom used to watch close to two hundred films across different languages. Anand feels that kind of created an impression in his subconscious mind. Anand initially started working on advertisements for a company and later launchied his own firm called Phat Phish Productions. Under his production house, he directed several ads for brands such as Thumbs Up, Surf, Dominos, and Bajaj Auto.

Apart from directing, Anand had a significant interest in music.
