Ekta Bisht is an Indian woman cricketer based in Uttarakhand. Born on 8th February 1986 in Almora, Uttarakhand, she happens to be the first woman cricketer from the state to have made it to the Indian team. Her father Kundan Singh Bisht is retired army personnel and her mother Tara Bisht is a homemaker. She has two elder siblings named Shweta Bisht and Vineet Bisht.
After serving as the captain of Kumaon University and playing for Uttarakhand cricket team for four years, she made her debut for the Indian national team on 2nd July 2011 against Australia.
Some of the most notable feats of her career include a hat-trick against Sri Lanka in Colombo. In 2017, she was the only cricketer to have been named in ICC Women’s ODI Team of the year and ICC Women’s T20 Team of the year.
A month before being named in both the squads, she was honored with the Khel Ratna Award and her coach Liyakat Ali Khan was given the Dronacharya Award. With 129 wickets in her bag, Ekta is the fifth Indian woman to have crossed the milestone of 100 dismissals. She is also the fifth highest Indian wicket-taker in ODI’s and third highest wicket-taker in t20s.
