Born in Kathmandu, Nepal, Sampada Malla is a descendent of the Malla king of Bhaktapur, Nepal, who rose to prominence in Creative Production, Media, Journalism and Writing in Nepal and India. She is the board chair and artistic director of Sarwanam Theatre Group, Nepal's top theatre company. She and Ashok Yadav co-founded 360 Degree Mountain Films, a production company that specialises in making international short films and features in Nepal. She received the "Travel Writer of the Year" award from the Nepal Tourism Board in 2005 and the "VOW College Women Award" from the Vow Magazine in 2007. She has produced documentaries for Save the Children Norway and The Asia Foundation that highlights the contribution of street theatre to raising awareness in Nepal.

She worked as a young artist in National TV advertisements and radio drama shows on Radio Nepal while attending Galaxy Public School in Kathmandu, Nepal. She started writing socio-based articles for popular national dailies like Kantipur Daily, The Himalayan Times, and The Kathmandu Post at the tender age of 13. She continued to work as a freelance journalist for popular magazines as well like ECS, Wave, Spaces, and many more. Sampada gained a Master's degree in journalism and mass communication from Punjab Technical University and holds a Master's diploma in cinema from the Asian Academy of Film and Television in India. On gaining her Master’s degree, she moved to Mumbai and started to work as an Associate Screenplay Writer for major television dramas like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Bhagyavidhata, Sasural Simar Ka, Navya, Parvarish and Uttaran.

She also worked as a Screenplay Writer for Badalte Rishtey Baldalte Rishtey is a daily soap opera telecast on >> Read More... , Ishq Ka Rang Safed and Sankha Sindhura. Her first film was a 30-minute Nepali short film, Pratibimba which premiered at the coveted Eka Deshma Festival in QFX Cinema Hall in Kathmandu, Nepal. She later became the creative producer for the Bollywood feature film Kerry on Kutton.
