It was 2008. The narrator was about to write a bold article. Five years after arriving in Mumbai, Aparna Purohit was delighted to return to her first dream of becoming an independent director. A postgraduate in mass communications from Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi, Purohit arrived in Mumbai in 2003. She just came up with a dream story," recalls the head of Origins, Amazon Prime Video India. The young woman dreamed of making a name for herself in the film industry. She felt like the world was waiting for this new director to come to the scene.

As an outsider, Purohit had a dream start. Within a week, she got a job on a TV show; the only assistant to a female director. The director and the creator did not look at her with a sexual eye. However, to all the other employees, she was always strange. She says: “It was not easy for a young woman to give instructions. Later, Purohit benefited from several projects, started her film career assisting directors such as Aparna Sen, Bharatbala and Naseeruddin Shah, and her business tour featured programs on Sony Entertainment Television and UTV Motion Pictures.

In 2008, Purohit was ready to take a solo tour. Leaving her humble business career, she went into business talking to her three friends. This work was aptly named ‘Chaaryaar Productions’. She thought it would be easy. What awaited her, however, were many real slaps. The production house has released a lot of news but no one is taking it. "We went from studio to studio, door-to-door but nothing happened. What made matters worse is the intrusion of another criminal. The year 2008 was the year when the recession hit the country. “Getting back into the system has not been easy. It was a very difficult year.”she recalls.

For this woman, her dream had come true. It took her five years to get her feet in Mumbai, she established her name in the industry and suddenly everything was ruined. “It was a truly traumatic experience for me,” says Purohit. She knew that an uncertain future was coming, and she began to prepare for a new life. She took whatever she could get, from lectures to lectures to helping others with stories, and Purohit did everything for just a small amount of money. In 2010, she moved to India's National Film Development Corporation as a consultant. This position became a turning point. Purohit met writers and creators from all over the world, gained insight into what empowerment is, and helped others tell their stories or improve their stories. She realized that this was really my calling.

Purohit enjoyed the role of creating a space for all kinds of stories to breathe. In December of that year, she joined Mumbai Mantra Media - the film arm of the Mahindra Group - as head of creative programs and managed the company's partnership with Robert Redford's Sundance Institute on Screenwriters Lab. In January 2016, she joined Amazon Prime Video, and rest is history. As head of Originals, Purohit has developed and introduced Indian blockbuster content such as Bandish Bandits Bandish Bandits is a web series streaming on Amazo >> Read More... , Patal Lok, The Forgotten Army, Breathe, Inside Edge Story soon >> Read More... , Comicstaan, Four More Shots Please!, Mirzapur and Made In Heaven.
