Nageen Tanvir is a remarkable composer in the Bollywood industry. She was born in 1964. She is the daughter of Shri Habib Tanvir, who was a famous Urdu and Hindi playwriter, theatre director, poet, and director. Her grandfather’s name is Hafiz Ahmed Khan. Like her father, she performs both in Urdu and Hindi. She did her graduation in music (vocal) from MS University, Baroda, and received her master’s degree in vocal music from Punjab University, Chandigarh. She received classical vocal training from Kumari Sharbori Mukherjee, Deepti Nag, and Sulochana Brahaspati. Nageen Tanvir worked as an artist under the name of Habib Tanvir’s Naya Theatre Productions.
She is also working on a Fellowship project, organized by the Government of India, that studies and explores the traditional music of Chhattisgarh. She was nominated for Mirchi Music Awards for Critics’ Choice Upcoming Composer of the Year. She has also been awarded the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award for composing music in Crossings (a blend of theatre and traditional dance conducted by Mahindra & Mahindra in Delhi on 6 February). Nageen composed Tarana, the theme song of Crossing, in Mishra Darbari Kanhra. She is best known for composing the songs in Peepli Live (movie), released in 2010. One of the most popular songs written by Nageen was Chola Maati Ke Ram (Peepli Live). Then in 2020, she wrote Shaheen Baghi.
