Rajendra Nath is a popular comedian actor in Hindi, Punjabi and Nepalese films. Originally, he came from Peshawar but his family moved to Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. He attended Darbar College in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh and studied Science. He is the brother of the late actor,
Prem Nath
and Bollywood actor,
Narendra Nath
. He quit college and went to Mumbai together with his brother Prem to become an actor. Their sister, Krishna got married to
Raj Kapoor
which brought their families closer to each other. Initially, he donned plays at the Prithvi Theatre such as Pathan and Shakuntala.Â
At first, he struggled in getting roles until he got an offer by producer
Sashadhar Mukherjee
to essay the role of Kailash in the Hindi romantic comedy film,
Dil Deke Dekho
which stars

in 1959. Rajendra and Asha became a regular face in several Nasir Hussain films including Baharon Ke Sapne,

Laya Hoon,
Teesri Manzil
, Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai and more. He donned over 187 films and this led him to become one of the most popular Indian comedians. He was notably remembered for his comedic role in the  box-office films, Mere Sanam in 1965 and Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon in 1963. He was widely known as Popat Lal, a buffoon in the 1961 Bollywood film, Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai by Nasir Hussain. He was known for his character name Popat Lal and he even used it when he appeared in the television sitcom, Hum Paanch. The brilliant actor has done many films including Shakti Samanta’s Hindi film, An Evening in Paris in 1967 and the Bollywood film, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon in 1963. One of his best performances was from the 1970 film, Purab Aur Paschim. He also made an appearance in the 1966 Nepali film, Maitighar by B.S. Thapa. He also donned several Punjabi films like Jhatt Punjabi. Rajendra was also part of the Hindi film, Vachan in 1938.
Out of his busy schedules doing films and television, the intelligent comedian actor was also doing stage shows around India and abroad including London,
New York
and more. Rajendra Nath died due to cardiac arrest. The actor was said to be having a hard time breathing on his last few days until he passed away on the day of February 13, 2008. Many big name personalities extend their condolences to the family of Rajendra including Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
