Biswa Kalyan Rath

Biswa Kalyan Rath is a popular Indian YouTuber and stand-up comedian. He is mostly known for his YouTube series, Pretentious Film Reviews, where he reviews Bollywood films along with other stand-up comedian and close friend, Karan Gill. Biswa is among one of the major individuals behind the Comedy Hunt on YouTube. His stand-up videos on YouTube are well-thought, clever, hilarious, and smart content. Biswa’s art of correlating with the audience directly makes him one of the top Indian stand-up comedy artists. Biswa Kalyan Rath took birth on December 27th, 1990 in Odisha, India. 

At a young age, Biswa studied in various schools across Orissa because his father, who was working in the State Bank of India (SBI), was often transferred. Biswa completed his graduation from IIT Kharagpur with a Bachelor of Technology degree specializing in Biotechnology. Before this, he took coaching for cracking the IIT entrance exams in Vishakhapatnam after completing secondary education. After completing graduation, Biswa shifted to Bengaluru and worked in advertising, software, and graphic design. Primarily, he began performing as a stand-up comedian in Bengaluru. During this time, he came in touch with Karan Gill at an open mic function in 2013. Biswa soon got fame, and people started applauding his work. Later, he quit his job at Oracle to start-up particularly as a full-time comedian during 2014.

After some time, Karan and Biswa came up with the concept of the Pretentious Film Reviews, which is a series of YouTube videos. It soon transformed into a web sensation. In this series, they both review critically slammed Bollywood movies like Prem Aggan and Gunda. They similarly reviewed the all-time hit film Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Their YouTube videos often get viral and widely shared on social media, including by various celebrities. During 2014, Biswa presented his first live show along with Karan Gill in Gurugram. Biswa Kalyan Rath started working as a stand-up comedian in 2015 and did his first solo India tour, “Biswa In your face” during September 2015.

He performed live in many cities, including Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata. In 2015, he presented the Comedy Hunt show alongside All India Bakchod (AIB) and other popular comedians. He has performed in all major urban communities over India for over two years now. His cleverness has got him an amazing reaction from the range of audiences. As an ex-coder, ex-IITin, and ex-engineer, he carries a unique point of view into comedy with mathematics, science, life, and dialect.
