Satyajit Pande Hindi Actor

Satyajit Pande

Satyadit Pande or also known as Setu is an Indian cinematographer. He was born in Calcutta and completed B. Com at St. Xavier’s College. Setu’s uncle, Ranjan Palit, a renowned cinematographer, together with his wife, Vasudha Joshi, a documentary filmmaker, has introduced him to photography. His uncle advised him to go to Mumbai if he wants to make it big. Initially, he worked as an apprentice to Anil Mehta and later with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Susequently, he studied cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. And then, he moved to Mumbai and assisted director Tigmanshu Dhulia in Haasil (2003) and Charas (2004). Af ter that, he worked on many commercials together with Shoojit Sircar. During that time, actor, Aamir Khan requested Sircar to work on his directorial debut film, Taare Zameen Par. However, Sircar was busy at that time and couldn’t take the offer, so he recommends Setu to Aamir. Maybe out of luck, he became the DoP of the film. But even though the film gave him a lot of recognition, he still didn’t get many film offers. It was maybe because of the recession that the film industry is facing during that time. So he decided to return to making ad films and documentaries. Some of his documentaries include Jari Mari, Dam/Age, etc. He also worked on several commercials for ICICI, Yamaha, Reliance, Maggi, and more. When his uncle was working on Saat Khoon Maaf, film director, Sujoy Ghosh was very impressed with his work. He requested his uncle to sign for Kahaani, but since his uncle was too busy with Saat Khoon Maaf, he suggested Setu instead and got the project. After that, Raj Kumar Gupta offered him to work on his upcoming film, Ghanchakkar. He also shot Ashish Avikunthak’s Bengali film, Nirakar Chhaya. He donned two short films, and one of it was Vijay Nambiar’s Reflections, which gave him the Best Cinematography Award at the New York Short Film Festival.
