Sandip Soparrkar graduated in hotel management course and he was considering the profession of a cook as his career. However, during his hotel management course, he had learned to dance as a part of hospitality training and this changed his former decision of wanting to pursue cooking as a career option. In 2001, he choreographed a Bollywood film named ‘Zubeidaa’ and this made him resolute in choosing choreography as his profession.
Sandip Soparrkar is currently a very successful choreographer not only in Bollywood, as he has gained international fame and acclamation. He is also popular for choreographing one of Britney Spears’s album by himself. Since 2001, he has choreographed in nearly ten films and even pioneered an event known as the ‘Indian Dance Week’ which is famous for hosting various dance forms of Indian and International style. The last edition of dance week was launched with the presence of many Bollywood celebrities.
Sandip married the famous supermodel Jesse Randhawa and together, the represented India in the 2014 edition of the Cannes Film Festival in France. The couple also performed at the International Marathi Film Festival hosted at Hong Kong, and they were praised for their glamourous performance on stage. Apart from choreographing films, Sandip also appears on television as a judge in popular reality shows such as ‘Dance India Dance,’ ‘Jalak Dikhhla Jaa’ and ‘Bharat Ki Shan’.
Sandip is a very resolute person since he does not deviate from his commitments, as seen from the fact that he has, for four times in a row, rejected the opportunity to appear in ‘Big Boss’ as he was a judge for a reality show at this time. Since 2014, he has received five awards for his choreography, including the National Achievement Award, Kudos award, NMIFF (Navi Mumbai International Film Festival) award etc. Sandip has proven many times to everyone on how indispensable he is in the field of dancing and choreography.
Chinni Prakash is an Indian choreographer, actor, art director, director, and script-writer. He always had an eye for making it into the Arena of Cinema in India. So, after finishing his studies, he came to Mumbai in search of a career in his dream profession. Luckily, he was introduced to a choreographer Sampath, who took Chinni as his assistant. His work was limited such that he used to choreograph the little portion of the songs.
He choreographed songs for various hit films like Ram Aur Shyam, Haathi Mere Saathi. Then, he suddenly disappeared from the field that he dreamt of getting in right from his childhood days. After nearly 8-10 years, he was back with a bang. He became a solo choreographer and in 1988, he did his first film, Hero Hiralal.
His works for the films like Swarg, Thanedaar was appreciated by the audiences and Chinni became one of the most sought-after choreographers of Bollywood town thereby fulfilling his dream. In the 1990s, he was at his peak taking part in many big films like Saajan, Gumrah, Khiladi, Mohra, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Coolie No. 1, Gambler, and London Dreams.
In 1991, he acted in the movie Uyiroviam and during 1997, he directed the film Ghoonghat. As time and technology advanced, his works started declining as the trend changed in the film industry. He has won the National Award for Jodhaa Akbar and Filmfare Best Choreographer Award for Hum. He married famous choreographer Rekha. The couple had choreographed several movies together. He has the credit of choreographing for more than 200 films.
He was not only bossing in Bollywood town but also did many works in other language films as well, mainly in Tamil films. He won a total of three FilmFare Awards in 1990, 1994, and 1996 for the motion pictures Hum, Mohra, and Rakshak respectively. His recent works include Singham Returns, No Problem, and Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Though he has not directed many films, he always had an eye in the director’s seat and plans to become one as soon as he finds a suitable script.
On the whole, Chinni has choreographed around 1000 songs in various languages. In the recent times, as we all know the songs are getting a lot of western touches, choreographers like Chinni criticize that the songs have lost its traditional Indian touch and creativity. There are also questions rising about the remunerations of choreographers as they are paid very less when compared to actors and directors.
