Bhagwati Charan Verma, a famous writer of the Post-Premchand period, was born on 30 August 1903 in Safipur town in the Unnao district. His father's name is Devicharan Verma and he worked as a lawyer. Bhagwati started writing poetry from his childhood. Soon bhagwati’s interest in writing poetry increased and he began contributing to the school magazine. He also started publishing articles in magazines like Pratap and Sharda.
At the age of 15, he was taken into a particular literary group in Kanpur where he met Vishwabharnath Sharma 'Kaushik', Balkrishna Sharma 'Naveen', Ramashankar Awasthi, Chandika Prasad Mishra, and others. After that, he went to Allahabad to further his education. He graduated in Hindi, English, and History subjects and passed the LLB examination in 1926. After completing his LLB in 1928, while practicing law in Hamirpur, Bhagwati met Raja Bajrang Bahadur Singh and remained under his care for a while.

In 1950, he published stories like "Patan", "Chitralekha","Teen Varsh" and also became affiliated with Akashwani Center in Lucknow and Delhi. He then quit his job for a while and focused on writing. The main idea behind his poems was self-discovery and personal thoughts are often expressed in his poems.
Bhagwati Charan Verma has written many novels, besides "Chitralekha", which focuses on sin and virtue, his four main stories "Tede-Mede Raaste", "Aakhri Daav", and "Apne Khilone" and "Bhoole-Bisare Chitra". He received the Sahitya Akademi award for his novel Bhoole-Bisare Chitra. The Government of India also awarded him the Padma Shri award. Some of his significant works are "Patan", "Chitralekha", "Teen Varsh", "Tedhe Medhe Raste", "Apne Khilone", "Bhule Bisre Chitr", "Samarthya aur Seema", "Thake Paav". He has produced shows like "Vasihat", "Rupya Tume Kha Gya" and "Sabse Bda Admi". During his career, he also wrote famous poems like “Madhukan”, “Prem Sangeet”, and “Manav” and stories like “Do Banke”, “Morchabandhi”, “Rakh aur Chingari”, “Installment”.
