Dinanath Dalal is a Hindi Artist. His full name was Narasingh Damodar Dalal Naik. He was born on May 30, 1916 in Goa. He used to speak the Konkani language along with English and Portuguese. He learned the Marathi language when he shifted to Mumbai. He graduated from the Sir J. J. School Of Art. He married to Sumati Pandit in 1943. She was also a painter. He is known for his paintings and illustrations. His work is popular through book covers, stories, cartoons, calendars and illustrations. He has worked in both applied and classical arts. He painted portraits of famous personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave and Jawaharlal Nehru. His very famous book cover design is Bangarwadi in the book Raja Shivchtrapati. He has studied Indian Miniature Paintings which include Jain and Rajput styles. He made advertisements and calendars for Dongre, Balamrut, Vartaki Tapkir, Kirloskar Oil Engines and Kokuyo Camlin. His famous annual diwali magazine titled Deepavali published in 1945. Deepavali was published in Marathi. Deepavali is the fusion of literature and art. He took his inspiration from Raja Ravi Varma, Abanindranath Tagore, Amrita Sher-Gil and S. L. Haldankar. He had also studied the art of European Western artists. His artworks are a combination of Indian and Western styles of art. He has won many awards like Bombay Art Society Awards, Presidential Award at the All India Art Exhibition, Gold Medal by the Indian Academy Of Fine Arts and Crafts and Bronze Medal from the Hyderabad Society.
