Rusi K. Banker was born on 4 July 1911 in Nagpur. He had a lot of interest in art, but his father did not encourage his interest much. He wanted Rusi to do a professional job, so he sent Rusi to college to study medicine. Meanwhile, a theater group came to Nagpur. After coming to Nagpur, these brothers became friends with Rusi K. Banker's father. Meanwhile, Rustomji Modi saw the extraordinary talent of Rusi K. Banker and became a fan of his artistic skills and thought of using his art in films.
After this, at 21, Rusi started working as a trainee art technician at Sagar Film Company and entered the film world. After this, he worked with Sheikh Fatehlal in Prabhat Studio. The name of the film on which he worked was Amrit Manthan (1934). In 1934, he joined Sohrab Modi's company Minerva Movietone as art director. Banker and Modi worked together for decades and made many films namely Khoon Ka Khoon (1935), Pukar (1939), Sikander (1941), Prithvi Vallabh (1943), Ek Din ka Sultan (1945), Jhansi ki Rani (1953), Mirza Ghalib Mirza Ghalib was a biographical television serial >> Read More... (1954), Kundan (1955) Sheesh Mahal (1950), and Raj Hath (1956). Of these, Pukar and Sikander were big hits.
Most of Sohrab Modi's films were either mythological or historical, so the Russian banker began his research at the Asiatic Library to study the architecture and costumes of particular periods. In 1953, he won the International Venice Award for his film Jhansi Ki Rani Jhansi Ki rani is a historical drama based on the >> Read More... . But despite much praise for the art direction, the film failed at the box office. The Russian banker also won the Filmfare Award for Best Art Director for "Mirza Ghalib" in 1954–55.
