Ranjit Singh, a perfectionist paying meticulous attention to details in his profession is an Art Director, Production Designer, and a Second Assistant Director. This galvanizing personality studied film production from Delhi and is a graphic designer with training acquired in the same field. Ranjit went to Mumbai to pursue his dreams in his area of interest. Ranjit Singh’s inspiration is Angelica Monika Bhowmick, who is also a production director in films like Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, and Bodyguard. Ranjit has worked with Angelica in Bodyguard and treated her as his Guru.

He loves the way she works on the sets and credits her for being such a meticulous production director. Ranjit Singh respects and supports the enculturation concept. Minute details matter while promoting a film like the name of the movie in the host country’s language, the grammar and also the meaning of the word used are to be incorporated while producing as well as promoting films. Ranjit has followed it while promoting Masaan on the hoardings and posters in Varanasi. The culture is to be depicted promptly and directly.

Ranjit, when he was shooting in Banaras for Masaan, first researched about the place and the people’s behavior well so that he could work with least difficulty. He also witnessed a cultural shock in Banaras as the place closes down at 7 p.m. Ranjit believes in ‘Neither play down nor play up’ which in simple terms means never over do anything or under-do anything. He found out that ignoring details and exaggerating details causes issues with respect to the scene. It is very necessary to be logical and realistic with the location’s choice and setting which is somehow a challenge in itself.

Ranjit Singh being an Art director shared his views on the scenes in the movie Sholay where he says that this film is notable in art direction with the jail it features which is bona fide with the bricks and walls of that period and also the steam engine where the fight sequence is shot. Ranjit’s production designs are religious, thorough and demanding which are proved by the drawings depicting traditions in the home, the hotel room ambiance and also the detailed merchandise in a flat in the movie Masaan.

Ranjit Singh backs many credits for his Art direction in films and TV serials, few among them are: War Chod Na Yaar (2013), Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost (2013), Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid (2012), The Girl With the Indian Emerald (2013), MCream (2014), Gattu (2011) and Gong fu yu jia of 2017. He has worked as a second assistant director in Kaafila (2007) and was also a production designer in Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend Click to look into! >> Read More... and Masaan.
