Latika was born to a Tibetan mother and an Australian father on 13th October 1924 in Darjeeling.Her real name was Hungu-Lamou. She vividly remembers being separated from her mother after her father passed away and her mother married again. She was later taken to an orphanage located in Kalimpong. In her teenage, she moved to Mumbai with her family. There, she learned Kathak and met film industry professionals at her family’s turn towards the film industry. Eventually, her acting career began with director Sohrab Modi's lead role at Minerva Studios, performed under the pseudonym "Latika." Latika has been acting from the Mid-1940’s up until the Early 50’s and starred in Scott's twelve movies. She is especially known for her performance involving an irresistible woman in the film Gopinath (1948) featured alongside Raj Kapoor, and for her intricate choreography in Jugnu (1947). Her ability to read Urdu well allowed her to perform better as she portrayed various characters in the works. In the course of the film business, Latika got married to actor Gope whom she was deeply attached to. She quit acting after they were married at Gope's wishes. They lived with their two boys, and their boys Gope Jr and Lalith lived in Gope’s mansion in Juhu.
