Surjit made his theatre debut in 1976 with the play Faizal by the team Panch Rang Manch. In 1982, he played his first TV serial on Doordarshan Jalandhar TV. He was seen playing in serials until 2007. In 2008, he made his debut in the Punjabi movie Aankhen Udikiyan. Ambarsariya, Sahib and Hamari Si are some of his films. In Sahib, he played the role of a CM, Gurpyar Singh.
