Shankar Gope was a versatile Hindi comedian and actor. Gope was born on April 11, 1913, in Hyderabad, Sindh. His hard work and interest in acting made him act in several cinemas. Gope moved to Mumbai and started his movie career by acting in Insaan Ya Shaitaan. He played the role of Jaddanbai in his first movie. In this movie, he acted in a small role. He acted in over one hundred forty films in his movie career. He was best known for his excellent performances in comedy roles, and because of this achievement, he became one of the most popular comedians of that time.
He had also acted in negative roles in some movies. His popularity assured him of being mentioned in the credit roll of the film with the main actors. He was also famous for lip-syncing the popular number Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon, which was a musical video from the movie Patanga, which was backed by C. Ramachandra. He had played comic roles with Yakub Khan. After that, he got impressive roles in Bazar, Beqasoor, and Sagai.
He acted in memorable roles in movies like Hindustan Hamara, Mirza Sahiban, and Chori Chori Story soon >> Read More... . In 1951, he played his first negative role in the movie Taraana. He played the villain role in a comic style. During the 1950s, he started his own production company and produced films like Hangama and Biradari. These films were directed by his own brother, Ram Kamlani.Gope is married to actress Latika, and they have two sons. Gope continued to act in movies until his premature death in 1957. He died on the set of Kundan Kumar's Teesri Gali, which was the last movie he had acted in and was released in 1958.
